Guides Onboarding Getting your social accounts connected

Getting your social accounts connected

A checklist rather than a guide. These are the social accounts we need access to, with the reason for each. Only do the ones for platforms you actually use. There is no benefit in granting us access to something you have no intention of posting on.

You are adding us, not handing over logins. Every platform below works by inviting our account. You keep ownership, you can see who has access, and you can remove us in a couple of clicks. Nobody needs your password.

The list

  1. Facebook and Instagram
One job, not two: Instagram is managed through the same Meta business portfolio as your Facebook Page. The guide covers the two-layer thing that catches everyone, where being added to the business is not the same as being given the Page.
  2. LinkedIn
Also two separate lists: your Page and your ad account. Granting one and not the other is the single most common reason we come back and say we still cannot see it.
  3. YouTube
Only if we are uploading or managing video. Note that channel access runs through Google, so it may already be sorted by the Google checklist.
  4. Pinterest
If Pinterest is part of your plan. Genuinely useful for retail, food, trades and anything visual; skip it otherwise.
  5. TikTok
Only if we are producing video for you. If you do not have an account yet, this covers setting one up.
  6. How approvals will work
Not an access step. This is how you will see and approve posts before they go out, so worth reading once at the start rather than the first time we send you a month of content.
Facebook and Instagram access is the one that most often goes wrong. Set aside a proper ten minutes rather than squeezing it between meetings, and do it on a computer rather than your phone. If the person who originally created the Page has left the company, tell us before you start, because that changes the whole approach.

If you get stuck

  • You cannot find the buttons. Usually means you have access to the Page but not to the business portfolio that owns it. Different thing, different screen.
  • Your Page is owned by a business portfolio you do not recognise. Often a previous agency. Tell us and do not try to claim it yourself, because a failed claim can make the proper process harder.
  • A request asks to transfer ownership. Decline it and send it to us. We only ever need access.
Do not give us the login to a personal Facebook or Instagram account. It breaks the platforms’ own rules, it can get the account restricted, and it means your personal profile is exposed. Business access exists precisely so this is not necessary. If a platform seems to give no other option, stop and ask us rather than sharing a personal password.

What we need if something fails

The platform, and what you saw. That is it. Most of these have a known cause and we can usually tell which from one sentence.
