How to Add Users to LinkedIn Company Page
On This Page
Screenshots are being updated. The pictures that were here showed an older LinkedIn layout, so they have been removed rather than left to mislead you. The steps below are written to the current screens.
LinkedIn splits access in a way nothing else does, and it is the source of nearly every “I gave you access but you still cannot get in” message we get. Your Page and your ad account are two separate things with two separate admin lists, reached from two different parts of LinkedIn. Being an admin of one gives you nothing on the other. So there are two jobs on this page, and if we have asked for both, you need to do both.
Nobody needs your password. LinkedIn access is attached to a person’s own profile, so you are adding us rather than handing over a login. You can see who has access whenever you like, and remove anyone in a couple of clicks.
The one thing to do first
LinkedIn will usually only let you add somebody as a Page admin if you are already connected to them. This trips up almost everyone, because the search simply returns nothing and it looks broken rather than blocked.
Send the connection request before you start. Connect with whoever at VM you deal with, wait for it to be accepted, then come back to this page. It turns a frustrating ten minutes into about ninety seconds.
Part one: your LinkedIn Page
- From your LinkedIn homepage, click Me at the top right, then choose your company under Manage. That puts you into the Page as an admin rather than viewing it as a visitor.
- Click Admin tools at the top right, then Manage admins.
- You will see tabs separating Page admins from Paid media admins. Page admins manage the Page itself: posting, editing, replying. Choose the tab that matches what you are granting.
- Click Add admin, start typing the person’s name, and pick them from the list. If they do not appear, you are almost certainly not connected yet.
- Choose the role, then Save.
Always keep at least two Page admins. If the only admin leaves the company, loses access to their personal LinkedIn, or simply stops replying, recovering the Page becomes a support case with LinkedIn rather than a setting you can change. It is slow and it is not guaranteed. Two admins costs nothing and removes the whole problem.
Part two: your ad account
Advertising lives in Campaign Manager, which has its own separate list of users. If we are running ads for you, this is the part that actually matters, and it is the one most often missed.
- While signed in to LinkedIn, click Advertise in the top menu.
- You will see the ad accounts you manage. Click the one you want to change.
- In the left sidebar, under Account Settings, click Manage Access. This lists everyone who currently has access.
- Click Add User and type the person’s name, or paste the address of their LinkedIn profile.
- Pick their access level from the table below, then click Add.
What each ad account level can do
| Level | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Account manager | Account settings, the billing centre, reports, campaigns and ads. This is the level we normally need to run advertising properly. |
| Campaign manager | Create and edit campaigns and ads, including status, bid and budget. No billing, no settings. |
| Creative manager | Create and edit ads only: headline, image and copy. |
| Viewer | Look at campaigns and ads, change nothing. Useful for someone who only needs to see results. |
| Billing Admin | Change billing details, view billing history, print receipts. A separate switch from the levels above. |
Access is granted one ad account at a time. Unlike Facebook and Google Ads, LinkedIn has no way to grant access to everything at once. If you have more than one ad account, each needs doing separately, and this is very often why advertising still is not visible to us after you have granted access.
Removing someone who has left
Two lists, so two removals. Doing only the Page one is the common mistake, and it leaves a former employee able to spend money.
- On the Page: Admin tools, then Manage admins, then remove them from whichever tab they appear in.
- On the ad account: Advertise, pick the account, Account Settings, Manage Access, then click the X beside their name.
- Repeat the second step for every ad account they had.
You may not have the standing to remove them. Removing a Campaign manager, Creative manager or Viewer needs you to be an Account manager. Removing another Account manager needs you to be an Account manager and the Billing Admin. If the buttons are not there, that is why, and it is worth emailing us rather than guessing.
When to email us instead
Tell us your company name and which part you were working on, and we will sort it out. Worth a message straight away if:
- The only Page admin has left the company.
- Nobody knows who the Billing Admin on the ad account is.
- You have granted access and we still cannot see the account. Nine times in ten this is the Page-versus-ad-account split, and we can check which side is missing in a minute.
- You cannot find the person in the search box. Usually the connection requirement, occasionally something else.
