How to Find Your Facebook Ad Account ID

Meta gives every advertising account a number. When we ask for “your ad account ID” we mean that number, and it is the fastest way for us to be certain we are looking at the right account before we touch anything. It is a string of digits, sometimes shown with an act_ prefix. It is not a password and it is not sensitive to share with us.

There are two different numbers and people mix them up. The ad account ID identifies one advertising account. The business portfolio ID (formerly Business Manager ID) identifies the whole business that owns your Page, your Instagram account and possibly several ad accounts. If we ask which one we want, we will say so. If you are not sure, send both.

The quick way

  1. Go to Meta Ads Manager and log in with the personal Facebook account you use for work.
  2. Open the account selector at the top of the screen. It is the dropdown showing the account name you are currently viewing.
  3. Every account you have access to is listed with its ID underneath the name. Copy the digits for the account you want.

The way that works when Ads Manager will not load

The ID also appears in the address bar. Any Ads Manager URL contains act= followed by the number, so you can read it straight off the top of your browser without hunting through menus. That is often the fastest route if the interface is being slow.

If you manage several accounts, Business Settings lists them all in one place under Accounts, then Ad accounts, with the ID beside each name. That is the view worth using if you need more than one.

Meta renames these screens regularly. “Business Manager” became “business portfolio”, and the menus move every year or so. The destinations are stable even when the labels are not: your ads live in Ads Manager, and the list of everything your business owns lives in Business Settings. If a label in this guide does not match what you see, look for the nearest equivalent rather than assuming you are in the wrong place.

What we do with it

Two things, mostly. It lets us confirm we have been granted access to the right account rather than a similarly named one, which happens more often than you would think when a business has been through more than one agency. And it is what Meta support asks for first if we need to raise a case on your behalf, for instance when an ad is rejected and the reason given makes no sense.

If you cannot find it

  • Ads Manager says you have no ad account. Then one has not been created yet, or you have access to the Page but not to the business that owns the advertising. Those are two separate grants and being given one does not give you the other.
  • You see somebody else’s accounts. Normal if you have ever helped with another business’s advertising. Pick yours by name, and send us the ID rather than the name so there is no ambiguity.
  • You are logged in as the Page rather than as yourself. Ads Manager needs your personal profile. Switch back to your own profile first.

What we need if something fails

Tell us what you see on the Ads Manager screen instead of the account list. A one line description is usually enough for us to tell whether this is a permissions problem or an account that does not exist yet.
