Welcome to Vigilante Marketing
On This Page
Welcome. This page is the one thing to read first. It covers what we need from you at the start, how we will work together day to day, and where to look when you want to change something yourself. Nothing here is urgent today, so read it once and come back to it.
You will never need to send us a password. Everything we need is granted by adding our email address to your accounts, so you keep ownership and can see and withdraw our access whenever you like. If any instruction, from anyone, asks you to email a password, treat it as a mistake and check with us.
Step one: access
Three checklists, and you only need the ones that apply to what we are doing for you. Each is a short numbered list with the reason for every item.
- Getting your website access sorted
Your WordPress login, your domain and your hosting. Start here, because it is the one that most often turns up a surprise worth knowing about early. - Getting your Google accounts connected
Analytics, Search Console, Tag Manager, and your Business Profile. Do the first three even if we are not doing SEO for you. - Getting your social accounts connected
Only if we are handling social or advertising. Set aside a proper ten minutes for the Meta one.
Setting up business email at the same time? Setting up a new Google Workspace covers that separately.
Do not save these all up. One a day is plenty. Telling us what you could not do is as useful as doing it, because half of what these checklists turn up is “the person who set this up has left”, which we would much rather know in week one than in month three.
How we will work together
| When you need to | What happens |
|---|---|
| Send us files, photos or a logo | Upload them to your Drive folder. Better than email, which compresses images and loses the good version. |
| Review our writing | Comment in the Google Doc rather than replying with changes in an email. Everything stays in one place and nothing gets missed. |
| Approve social posts | In HeyOrca, where you see the month laid out and approve or comment on each post. |
| Ask for a change to the website | Email us the page address and what you want it to say. You do not need to describe how to do it. |
| Change something yourself | Start with the guides library. See below. |
Changing things yourself
You are welcome to. Your website is yours and plenty of clients make their own small edits. Two pages make that safe:
- The guides library opens with a “What do you want to change?” table. Find the thing you want to do in the left column, follow the link. That is the page to bookmark.
- What not to touch, and when to email us instead is the short list of screens that affect the whole site at once. Reading it once will save you a bad afternoon.
You cannot break your website by reading a screen. Nothing changes until you save, most changes to a page can be undone from its own history, and we keep backups regardless. The handful of genuinely consequential settings are all named on that one page. Everything else is yours to use.
The two habits that make this work
- Tell us when something looks wrong, even if you think you caused it. We would far rather hear “I clicked something and the shop looks odd” within the hour than find it a fortnight later. Knowing roughly when it happened is often the difference between a five-minute fix and a restore.
- Send the page address. Whatever you are asking about, pasting the address of the page saves a round trip every single time.
When to just email us
Always fine, and for these it is the right answer rather than a fallback:
- Anything to do with payments, tax or shipping settings on a shop.
- Anything that affects every page: colours, fonts, the menu, the footer.
- Anything you have already tried once that did not work. Please do not try it a third time.
- Anything where you are not sure whether it is safe. Asking is free and always faster than undoing.
