How to Invite Connections to Follow Your LinkedIn Page
On This Page
LinkedIn lets Page admins invite their own first-degree connections to follow the Page. It is the fastest legitimate way to get a new Page off zero followers. You get a limited pool of invitation credits, a credit is only consumed when somebody accepts, and declined invitations cost you nothing.
This is one of the few genuinely worthwhile things only you can do. We can run your Page, but we cannot invite your connections; they are yours, not ours. Ten minutes from each person on your team at the start is worth more than any amount of posting into an empty room.
What you need
- To be a super admin or content admin of the Page. Analyst access is not enough.
- Some first-degree connections. Second and third degree cannot be invited.
Steps
- Go to your Page and switch into the admin view. LinkedIn labels this “super admin view” or similar near the top of the Page.
- Open the Admin tools dropdown at the top of the Page and choose Invite connections.
- Pick people from the list, or search by name. There are filters for location, current company and school, which are the fastest way to find the people most likely to care.
- Click Invite. Each person gets a notification. If you see an error, you have most likely run out of credits for now.
Only invite people who would plausibly want this. LinkedIn filters out anyone already following and anyone previously invited, but it does not stop you inviting your entire address book, and it counts against you when people ignore or hide the invitation. Inviting fifty relevant people beats inviting five hundred indiscriminately, and it protects your credit pool.
How the credits work
- You get a pool of credits, and they refill on a set date each month.
- A credit is spent when somebody accepts, not when you send. Declines and ignores are free.
- The pool is per Page, shared by all its admins. Coordinate rather than three of you working through the same list on the same afternoon.
- Pages under 100,000 followers also get an “invite connections to follow” module on the right of the Page. It disappears if an admin dismisses it or if fewer than three connections remain to invite.
Getting more out of it
A few things that make a real difference:
- Post something first. An invitation to a Page with no posts converts badly. Have two or three posts up before you start inviting.
- Spread it across the team. Every admin has their own connections. Five people inviting their own networks reaches five different rooms.
- Filter by company. If you sell to a particular industry, the current-company filter is the difference between followers and useful followers.
- Do it again next month. Credits refill, and your connection list grows.
If it does not go to plan
- No Invite connections option. You are viewing the Page as a member rather than as an admin, or your role is analyst rather than super or content admin.
- An error when you click Invite. Almost always the credit limit. Wait for the refill date shown on the dialog.
- Somebody is missing from the list. They already follow the Page, or they have been invited before. LinkedIn filters both out automatically.
- The right-hand module has vanished. An admin dismissed it. Use the Admin tools route above instead; it does the same thing.
