Woodlots BC, also known as the Federation of BC Woodlot Associations (FBCWA), is a non-profit society dedicated to representing the interests of woodlot licensees and owners throughout British Columbia. They approached us with the goal of revitalizing their online presence.
the client
what they needed
Woodlots BC needed a modern, user-friendly website that retained all their existing content, pages, articles, and custom features. Maintaining the existing website’s content was integral for the client. They required seamless migration of all their informative content, government resources, and member-specific materials. This included custom post types such as Woodlot Conference and AGM meetings, news, notices, and bulletins. Additionally, they wanted to reintegrate the BC Agroforestry Atlas—an invaluable resource for agroforestry in BC.
what we did
To meet Woodlots BC’s needs and align with their mission of forest and natural resource management, our developer Ben Wilson, in collaboration with designer Jamie Langevin, took on the challenge of revitalizing their website. Here’s an overview of our approach:
We seamlessly migrated all of Woodlots BC’s existing content, ensuring that their informative content, government resources, and member-specific materials were preserved.
To resonate with the organization’s connection to nature, we infused the website with earthy tones, greens, and browns. These design elements reflected their mission and values.
We created custom grid layouts and carousels that showcased the new natural color palette. These elements not only looked appealing but also improved website navigation for a better user experience.
Inspired by user-friendly interfaces like Apple’s, we incorporated a ‘super footer’ that offered quick access to essential content and information. This made navigation effortless for all visitors.
For Woodlot Association members, we implemented a secure member-restricted access system using plugins like MemberPress and WP Members. This ensured that specific resources and information were accessible only to authorized members.
In summary, we successfully revitalized Woodlots BC’s online presence by preserving their content, enhancing their website’s design, and implementing member-restricted access, all in alignment with their mission of forest and natural resource management.
