who they are

Weaving House

L’hen Awtxw Weaving House is led by Chief Janice George and Buddy Joseph, Squamish Nation artists, teachers, authors and cultural leaders. Their work spans private commissions, public art for cities and institutions, public speaking, weaving and textiles courses, and books including Salish Blankets and The Teachings of Mutton.

Vigilante Marketing built weavinghouse.org from Emily Chow Marketing’s design as part of our Starter package, and hosts and looks after the site.

The Challenge

What They Needed

L’hen Awtxw Weaving House is the home of Chief Janice George and Buddy Joseph, Squamish Nation artists, teachers and authors who share Coast Salish weaving through public art, private commissions, public speaking, courses and books.

Working with Emily Chow Marketing, they had a new website designed in Figma: rich photography, bold type, deep red and brown tones, and a page for each way people can work with them.

They needed a web partner to turn that design into a real website, faithfully and on every screen size, as part of our Starter package.

The site also had to be easy to keep current, with a gallery of work and testimonials that can grow as new projects and kind words come in.

From Figma to Live Site

We built the new weavinghouse.org on the Impreza theme directly from Emily Chow Marketing’s Figma design, matching the type, colours, spacing and photography across the homepage, About, Private Commissions, Public Art, Public Speaking and Weaving Courses pages. Full-height photo heroes, a script ampersand and a formline motif carry the feel of the design onto every page.

The design was drawn for desktop, so we shaped the tablet and mobile layouts ourselves, keeping the same look and making sure everything stacks cleanly on a phone. The Books and Contact pages were built from the same design system, so the whole site feels like one piece.

A Gallery That Grows With Their Work

The Gallery of Work runs on a portfolio post type, so each project is added once with its photo, title, place and year and appears in the gallery automatically. Visitors can filter by Private Commissions, Public Art, Weaving & Textile Courses and Exhibitions, and open any piece in a full-screen lightbox.

Testimonials work the same way. Each one is a simple entry in WordPress that shows in a carousel across the site, and the section stays hidden until the first testimonial is published, so visitors never see an empty placeholder.

Ready to Be Found

Before launch we wrote SEO titles and descriptions for every page, set up a contact form with a service selector so enquiries arrive with the right context, and kept the site behind a branded Coming Soon page while the final content came together.

We also added login protection and our standard security hardening, and the site runs on our managed WordPress hosting. At launch the Coming Soon page came down and the full site went live, ready to share.

The Result?

Chief Janice George and Buddy Joseph now have a website that feels as considered as their work: warm, rich and rooted in Coast Salish design. Their art, teaching, speaking and books live together in one place, and the gallery and testimonials can grow right along with them.
