How to Invite Friends to Like a Facebook Page

Facebook lets you invite your own friends to follow your Page. For a new Page it is the quickest honest way to get past zero, because a Page with no followers gets almost no reach and a Page with a few hundred gets a start. You are inviting from your personal friend list, so this is a job for you and your team rather than for us.

Nothing appears on your personal timeline. Your friends get an invitation notification and that is all. Your Page and your profile stay separate, and people who ignore the invitation are not told about it again.

Steps

  1. Go to your Page on a computer and find the row of buttons near the top. Look for the more option, usually shown as three dots.
  2. Choose Invite friends, or Invite to follow depending on which version of the interface you have.
  3. Select people individually, or use Select all. There is a search box, and a dropdown at the top that lets you filter your friends by the groups you share with them, which is far more useful than scrolling.
  4. Optionally tick the checkbox in the lower left to send the invitations through Messenger instead of as notifications. Messenger reaches people more reliably and is more intrusive; up to 50 at a time. By default people just get a standard notification.
  5. Choose Send invites.
Think before you use Select all. Inviting every friend you have, including people who have no connection to what you do, is the fastest way to get invitations hidden and to look like a business that spams. Filtering by group or by location and inviting the people it would make sense for beats inviting everyone, every time.

Do this first, or it is wasted

Post two or three things before you invite anybody. A Page with an empty timeline gets a click and a shrug. It also helps to have the logo, cover image and About section finished, because the invitation puts your Page in front of people exactly once.

Getting more out of it

  • Ask your team to do the same. Every admin and employee has a different friend list. That is the single biggest lever available here.
  • Use the group filter. Local business groups, industry groups and alumni groups all sort your list into people with a reason to follow.
  • Come back in a month. Your friend list grows and Facebook will show you who has not been invited yet.
  • Do not buy followers. It measurably harms reach, because Facebook shows your posts to a sample of your audience first and judges by how they react. Bought followers never react.

If it does not go to plan

  • You cannot find the option. Facebook moves it between the three-dot menu and a “Grow your audience” panel. Check both. On a phone it is often hidden entirely, so use a computer.
  • Nothing happens when you send. There is a daily limit that Facebook does not publish. Try again tomorrow rather than repeatedly.
  • Someone is missing from the list. They already follow the Page, or they have been invited before.
  • You are not an admin. Editors and moderators cannot invite. Whoever created the Page can change your role.

What we need if something fails

Which step, what you see instead, and whether you are on a computer or a phone. That last one answers it more often than you would expect.
