Invite delegate access to your GoDaddy account

Delegate access is GoDaddy’s way of letting somebody else work on your domains and hosting without ever giving them your password. You stay the account owner, you can see who has access, and you can revoke it in two clicks. A delegate can open and use your products; they cannot see your payment methods, change your password, or buy anything.
This is the right way round. If anybody, us included, ever asks you to email your GoDaddy password, treat it as a mistake and check with us. Delegate access exists precisely so that is never necessary.
What you will need
- Your GoDaddy login. If you cannot get in, sort that out first rather than working around it.
- Our details: Vigilante Marketing and [email protected].
Steps
- Go to your GoDaddy Account Settings. You will be prompted to log in if you are not already.
- Open Delegate Access.
- Under People who can access my account, choose Invite to Access.
- Enter the name and email address. For us that is Vigilante Marketing and [email protected]. Use exactly that address, not a personal one belonging to whoever you have been emailing, or the invitation will land in the wrong place.
- Choose Products & Domains as the access level. GoDaddy also offers a Products-only level and a full Products, Domains & Purchase level. Products & Domains is the one we need and the one we ask for. GoDaddy’s explanation of the levels is worth a glance if you want to be sure.
- Click Invite. GoDaddy emails us the invitation. Once we accept it, we will confirm with you.
Do not choose the “Purchase” level. The highest level lets a delegate buy products and renewals on your card. We never need it and we would rather you did not grant it to anyone. Products & Domains covers everything we do.
Why we ask for the Domains part
Products-only access is enough to look at your hosting, but not to touch DNS. Almost everything we actually need GoDaddy for is DNS: pointing a new website live, connecting your email, adding a subdomain, or verifying your domain with Google. Granting Products-only usually means we come back and ask again a week later.
If it does not go to plan
- You cannot see Delegate Access. You are probably signed in to a personal GoDaddy account rather than the one that holds the business domain. People often have two without realising.
- The invitation never arrives. Check the address you typed. A single typo sends it into the void with no error.
- The domain is not in your account. Then it is registered somewhere else, or in a former employee’s account. Tell us and we can look up who holds it from the public record.
Removing our access later
Same screen. Find us in the list and choose to delete the delegate. Nothing on your site changes; we simply lose the ability to log in. You never need our permission and you do not need to explain why.
What we need if something fails
Which step you reached and what the screen said. If you are not certain the domain is even in that account, say so, and lead with the domain name.
